Middlepoint
Appaloosa stud is owned by Hennie Oosthuizen and his
family near Verkeerdevlei. The stud started in 1963 when
Hennie’s father (Gert Oosthuizen) bought a few spot mare
named Fairlaine with a near leopard colt on an auction
at Excelsior from a black man from Lesotho.
The colt was named
Smoke Signals and was crowned as the first horse
completed 1000km in organized endurance riding in South
Africa.
Fairlaine gave us
another 12 foals. One of her foals named Alphaloosa also
did well in endurance riding and completed 10
Fouriesmith Endurance Ridings. Fairlane and her foals
formed the base of Middlepoint Appaloosa stud.
Stallions that had a
great influence on our stud were: Southeren Baue(USA),
Middlepoint Vonk, Middlepoint Kolbooi, Middlepoint
