Middlepoint Appaloosa stud is owned by Hennie Oosthuizen and his family near Verkeerdevlei. The stud started in 1963 when Hennie’s father (Gert Oosthuizen) bought a few spot mare named Fairlaine with a near leopard colt on an auction at Excelsior from a black man from Lesotho.

The colt was named Smoke Signals and was crowned as the first horse completed 1000km in organized endurance riding in South Africa.
